SUMMARY:What Every Healthcare Professional Needs to Know About Lymphatics and Lymphedema
DESCRIPTION:The lymphatic system is impacted in several critical ways during cancer treatment and can lead to chronic and progressive lymphatic disease. Every healthcare professional that comes in contact with someone during or after their cancer treatment can play a vital role in educating\, screening\, and appropriately referring a patient to a lymphatic specialist when appropriate. Dr. Angela Wicker-Ramos PT\, DPT\, CLT- LANA will offer ways to equip professionals with knowledge to monitor\, assess\, and communicate effectively about lymphedema without performing treatment themselves. \nObjectives: \n\nProfessionals will understand the impact of cancer treatment on lymphatic health.\nProfessionals will feel more confident addressing patient’s/client’s survivorship concerns around lymphatic injury.\nProfessionals will increase their knowledge on up-to date screening tools for lymphedema.\nProfessionals will increase their Increase knowledge on preventative practices for those with lymphatic compromise.\nProfessionals will increase their Increase knowledge on resources to find an appropriate certified lymphedema therapist and lymphedema treatment in their area.\n\n*Continuing education credit for multiple disciplines will be provided for this event. \n\nAngela Wicker-Ramos PT\, DPT\, CLT- LANA\nOncology Physical Therapist\nCertified Lymphedema Therapist\nDirector of Rehabilitation\nOwner and Founder of CRIM \n  \nAngela Wicker-Ramos PT\, DPT\, CLT- LANA is the owner\, certified lymphedema therapist\, oncology physical therapist and director of rehab at Cancer Rehab and Integrative Medicine and cofounder of the non-profit Moving Beyond Cancer Collaborative. \nFrom 2018 – 2019 she was Director of Health and Wellness at Texas Oncology. She has lymphedema certifications from both the Academy of Lymphatic Studies (ACOLS) and the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA) and has been designated a National Lymphedema Network Expert Clinician. Angela is board certified in Oncology through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists and participated in the Survivorship Training and Rehabilitation (STAR) program from 2012–2015 and is Oncology Rehab Certified through the Physiological Oncology Rehabilitation Institute (PORi). She also has advanced training through the APTA on Women’s Health and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. \nShe has developed the oncology rehab and lymphedema programs at multiple clinics/hospitals in New Mexico and Texas prior to opening a private practice oncology specialty clinic in 2015. Angela participates in community and national presentations/educational events including the National Lymphedema Network\, Breast Cancer Resource Center\, Cancer Support Community of Central Texas\, and Livestrong. She has created course content for Foundation 96\, The Head and Neck Cancer Survivorship Symposium\, the National Lymphedema Network Conference. She was on the steering committee for the Austin Cancer Support Coalition and is on the Breast Cancer Resource Center CDC Advisory Council. \nAngela has also been interviewed regarding oncology rehabilitation and lymphedema for The Stupid Cancer Show\, The Dr. Carol Show\, Pelvic Zen Blog Radio\, Beyond the Boobie Trap\, and Seton Healthline\, and the Onco PT. She has participated in multiple educational classes and guest lecturing at Austin Community College and Texas State University. Angela contributes to multiple Multidisciplinary Cancer Conferences and Tumor Boards. She is a member of the National Lymphedema Network (NLN) and the American Physical Therapy Association Oncology and Private Practice Sections.

DESCRIPTION:No one is ever prepared to receive a breast cancer diagnosis. We know the fear of the unknown can be overwhelming and frightening. Breast Cancer Resource Center has combined information and tools to better understand a diagnosis and empower patients to ask questions and get the answers they need. Learn breast cancer basics\, types of treatment\, practical resources\, and items to consider before starting treatment. \n*Open to all who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer within the last month of a class being offered.  \nVirtual via ZOOM\nWhen: 2nd Tuesday of every month\nTime: 6:00 PM-7:00 PM CT
